Plymouth Jive Club is an independent modern jive club that first came into being in April 1998, formed by the core members of the folding Plymouth University Dance Society Jive Club that had started in 1993.
The objective of the club is to teach and promote the modern jive dance style in a light-hearted and social environment, whilst keeping class prices at a reasonable level (we pride ourselves on being able to keep our prices low). The most important thing is that our members enjoy themselves and their jive dancing. Visiting jivers to the south-west region are always welcome at our weekly sessions.
We meet every Tuesday from 7:30pm to 11:00pm and most Fridays from 9:00pm to midnight at the Royal British Legion Club, Tailyour Road, Crownhill, Plymouth, PL6 5DH (telephone number of the venue 01752 721331). See the red cross in the map on the right to help find where we are.
Complete novices are most welcome and the Tuesday sessions are split into 2 parts - a beginners lesson followed by a short free dance and then an intermediates lesson also followed by a free dance. The beginners lesson is taught from a total novice level each week so there should be no problem joining in. The intermediate lesson can be attempted after 6 to 8 weeks of regular attendance.
Friday sessions take the form of a short beginners OR improvers lesson followed by free dancing until close.
